project CONDOR: 2007
- Welcome to project CONDOR, a new media performance that explores spatial audio. New media artist Casey Farina and lead engineer James Diomede III have been working to design a lighter than air six channel audio system. Multichannel musical compositions can be streamed wirelessly via Bluetooth technology to ultra light speaker arrays suspended from seven foot robotic blimps. This “aerial audio” system makes it possible for each speaker to dynamically change position throughout the performance. By combining this sound system with a light show and video projection, project CONDOR is a truly unique multimedia performance. Composers Theron Humiston, Stephen Syverud, Chris Mercer, Brett Masteller, Jonathon Kirk and Casey Farina have been commissioned to create six electronic compositions for this completely unique audio experience. Project CONDOR is funded by a grant from CIRA (The Center for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts) at Northwestern University and originally presented as part of “The Music Show” by Chicago City Arts Gallery.
